Hi Everyone, My name is Lisa Kumar, and I'm very excited to be a part of Astraea! Other than having a short story epublished, this is my first foray into the world of publishing. I'm looking forward to getting to know everyone here! A little about my self: I'm married, have one son (nine years old), and live in IL. During high school I wanted to be a writer, but my college background is in psychology. Career-wise, I've worked in group homes that housed MR (mental retardation) residents and did a stint as a crisis worker. The last job, I would have to say, was my least favorite! If you have a little time, please introduce yourself Thanks! Lisa

Hi Lisa! I'm the mother hen here. ) I'm a tough nut to crack, especially when edits are involved, so watch out. I also write. Mainly contemporary romances. My writing fell somewhere in the middle as not erotica and not inspirational, so I started Astraea because I knew there was more people like me out there. I love sensuality, but I close the door on my characters and I want them to be married. I don't want anyone reading my book and feeling ashamed. If they're not married, then there's a lesson involved. Everything revolves around the standards I have for myself and my friends/family. My books are Doubting Thomas, Tinseltown, and My One True Love, all released in the last 12 months. What a ride! Welcome to the fold here at AP. In all honesty, it's more like a party around here than a business, which is part of why I'm loving this so much! Looking forward to getting to know you!

Thanks for the warm welcome, everyone!
Rebekah, I write fantasy romance. What genre do you write?
Stephanie, glad to hear you give thorough edits to help make each author's work shine. There are definitely worse things to be accused of:) A party environment livens up everyone's life and makes work fun! I feel the same about you as erotica. Even romance books from retailers like Walmart have too much smut in them. Sure, I can skip over the scenes, but then I'm skipping a third of the book. At least that's the way it seems to me. I could never 'see' how two people could fall in love when most of their scenes consist of frolics in the bedroom.
I'm happy to be at AP and look forward to getting to know everybody.

Welcome aboard! Nice group, interesting mix of works, types of works and so on. I also write sensuous romance, but not erotica. I like the challenge of writing a romance without a bedroom scene. Makes you write better and work harder!

Welcome, Lisa and congratulations on your sale.
Astraea Press has been a lot of fun to work with and I hope you enjoy it.
I write contemporary romances and they are very much on the sweet side. I tend to forget to put any of the physical stuff in. LOL. In my last rough draft, I was on page 150 and realized they hadn't even kissed yet! Well they had - a long time ago, but not in this part of the story. I was just having too much fun with the rest of the story.

Welcome, Lisa. This is my first time being signed with a publishing house, also, and it's an adventure! My novelette is contemporary romance, but in all honesty, I never expected to write a romance--I consider myself a fantasy writer and am working on an epic novel. I've also had short horror stories published online and my first professional fantasy story is coming out in a month--but Astraea Press is beating that market to the punch by releasing my first professional work with Maya's Vacation at the end of the month. =) It's all very exciting! I am so glad that this novelette found a home as I knew once I wrote it that it didn't fit into more traditional romance due to its length and lack of erotica. Thank you, Stephanie, for starting Astraea just when I'd convinced myself I'd never find a market for it.
